At 24, Jakob Blankenburg is the youngest member of the current SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag. As a directly elected member of parliament for Lüchow-Dannenberg and Lüneburg, he is a member of the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection during this legislative period. There he deals with the topics of nuclear safety and sustainability. He is also active in local government, including as the initiator of the annual Stand Up Against Racism festival in Uelzen and as a member of the Lüneburg district council.

During his school years, he joined the SPD through an internship with Lars Klingbeil and was the state chairman of the Jusos Lower Saxony from 2017 until last year. Jakob Blankenburg successfully completed his studies in political science in Hanover at the beginning of 2021. Until his election to the German Bundestag, he supported the SPD parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament as press officer.
