Lukas Meyer

State Coordinator Thuringia

"Giving young people a voice, respecting their opinions and ideas, and integrating them into the political decision-making process should become a general matter of course."

Lukas was born in 2001 in the heart of Germany, the Thuringian Forest. He took on responsibility as a class representative in elementary school. At high school, he continued his commitment and founded a student parliament as one of the student representatives. At the age of 16, he began his political involvement with the CDU and then the Junge Union. While still at high school, Lukas was elected district chairman of the Gotha Junge Union in 2020. With the end of his school years, he remained loyal to his home and studied political science and history at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. In September 2020, Lukas was elected to the local council of the rural municipality of Georgenthal, where he is primarily committed to the young generation. Furthermore, he is involved as a student representative in the student council of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, is a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and is active as an assessor in the state board of the Junge Union Thüringen. In addition to his studies, Lukas works as a district manager for the CDU Gotha.

The participation and political involvement of students and young people is essential in order to make political decisions. Their opinions and ideas are part of the decision-making process. Student and youth parliaments are thus also a place where participants can be further politicized and exercise their democratic right to express their opinions and participate politically.
